I cut out the fabric for a shirt a few weeks ago, but for various reasons didn't really get much of the sewing done until this weekend. At which point it struck me that if I added the collar stand and just left off the collar, I'd end up with a granddad shirt, and maybe that would look quite nice, actually.

I think it does look quite nice.

Date: 2021-05-30 07:05 pm (UTC)I am making a shirt dress but found I hadn't cut out the collar stand at all and also that I had (unusually) thrown all the spare fabric away. I ordered more (and 4 more chunks of exciting fabric at the same time, oops but also bonus) and now it has come, it is not quite the same colour so I am going to attempt pinching it from the bottom half of the front facing. Tonight I am taking the sleeves off and pinning them on the opposite arms. I thought very hard about where the cuff opening needed to go and I was wrong.

I spent quite a bit of time turning the sleeves of this one round and comparing them to the armholes, because the fabric doesn't have a right and wrong side and I didn't want to fold one the wrong way and end up with two left sleeves.

Shirt sleeves are difficult to get right and it's a mistake that ends up making everything worse.
