I often find my birthday a weirdly stressful experience, so this year I decided I was going to be as low-key as possible about it. I mostly achieved this by opening the small number of cards and presents from my family when they arrived, rather than saving them to open today, which meant that today has mostly just been a normal Saturday. I went for a nice swim in the rain, sewed foldover elastic on to one and two-thirds pairs of dragon-print pants, and we have a Rick Stein menu box as a slightly fancy dinner (given the weather, I am really very glad we didn't decide to chance going out for an outdoor meal somewhere). Not a bad day at all, really, even if I was interrupted by a panicked text from my head of department mid-afternoon saying that some key documentation for interviews on Monday morning hadn't been uploaded, and could I do anything to help? (I could. It took less than ten minutes. But even so.)

Did you already know that your birthday is on day 128 in a non leap year or is that new info?

Also "I went for a nice swim in the rain" strictly speaking does parse, but.

It’s very hard not to sing it to the tune of Singing in the Rain.

Happy Birthday!
And may your head of department step on some lego when going to the loo tonight.

Glad you had not a bad day.

Likewise and the Sikh takeaway meal was excellent especially when we heard from the matriarch of the family that runs the food stall in our local market that she had had both her jabs and was pleased to hear we'd had ours which nicely knocked all the racist stuff that's being put about. :o)

Belated happy birthday! A Rick Stein menu box sounds excellent, even without yesterday's appalling weather.

I'm glad you enjoyed your day the way you wanted to. I too have got to the age where I no longer feel obliged to have a birthdayish birthday if I'm not in the mood. This year Kev's working and I'm going back to my pottery class, so we will hopefully just have a couple of friends over for dinner in the garden at the weekend, which we'd probably do regardless.
