I don't have a lot of tenuous claims to fame*, but as of 7:30 this evening I will be able to say that my handknitted socks have been on BBC2.

(They will be on Mastermind, on the feet of T, who will also be on Mastermind.)

What are your best tenuous claims to fame?

*nor do I have any actual claims to fame, really

What are your best tenuous claims to fame?

A book on goth subculture whose author used online surveys, and after answering his questions very thoroughly he quoted me with a single line.

I've got a quiz-related one, which is that in my third year in university I went out with the chap who exclaimed "Homosexuals!"* in response to a University Challenge question to which the correct answer was "Regiments of the British Army". He's even in TV Tropes!

*my faulty memory improves the joke by having him buzz in before the question is finished, but YouTube is there to chasten me. Paxo's response is rather homophobic, no surprise there though. Bamber Gascoigne would never.

I'm in the acknowledgements (with my name misspelt) for a non-fiction book by an author-journalist whose main claims to fame were writing up the Enoch Powell Rivers of Blood speech for the Scottish Herald, and getting one of his fiction books made into a film starring a Big Hollywood Action Hero.

We switched on a few minutes before the end and suddenly it came back to me that T was doing it and I exclaimed 'That's my friend's husband!'. So perhaps my best tenuous claim to fame is that a Mastermind semi-finalist did some shopping for me when I had Covid.

I didn't realise at the time, but well done socks! I felt so sorry for that woman who didn't know anything and looked crushed.

And so relieved and shocked when there was finally a general knowledge question that she knew. The knitting lady also looked terrified throughout.

Yes, she did. And got flustered and missed some answers she knew.

It really did, I'm sure she knew a bunch of the answers, I didn't think the general knowledge questions were *that* hard, I got several.

I have seen it now. Well done T. And he also looked as though he had practised "say an answer, any answer, quickly rather than pass" in case it came down to number of passes, although it really really didn't :-)

Damn, the return of the Town Band to distanced outdoor practice in someone's garden meant that this was the first week I didn't watch it because I was lugging child's tuba about the village at the critical moment. iPlayer.
