Pandemic days

I'd started to quite like having a day a week working quietly from home, but working from home full-time again is quite another matter and it took me far too much of today to actually get my head into work mode, via an incautious cup of coffee which gave me the jitters rather than waking me up and then a couple of cups of soothing turmeric and cocoa infusion (today's offering from my tea advent calendar).

T had his booster today and came back to report that the local vaccination clinic was theoretically doing walk-ins but were so busy that the chances of actually getting a walk-in jab were fairly slim. I verified this myself when I went to pick up a prescription and some lateral flow tests (having had my anxiety exacerbated by hearing that the online delivery service had run out completely) from the pharmacy next door and saw the queue snaking round the building and car park. I will wait for my booked appointment on the 22nd, though it's a bit galling to see people whose second jabs were after mine getting boosted first. But that's what happens when Boris Bloody Johnson goes all out to try to get people to think "oh, good old Boris, he got me my booster" rather than "total scumbag who clearly doesn't give a jot about anyone but himself and thinks the rules don't apply to him".

And it all feels very Groundhog Day.

I hear you! I was supposed to wait for a notification then it git relaxed to 'you can book at 5 months'& I wasn't quick enough off the mark so all that was bookable was Christmas Eve. Now he's crash landed another bit of boosterism on us who knows what it will be like - I do know that several of the walk-ins are reporting 'No Boosters' & you can bet there'll be a loud part of the population that blames it on the NHS not That Particular Politician.

I ordered a box of LFTs online on Saturday okay, but whether I'll get them or not is another matter.

I think if you manage to order them that should be OK, but the site was saying out of stock for most of yesterday and today.

I was a bit quick off the mark with mine as soon as they said you could get it at 5 months I did a walk in at a local pharmacy and got my flu jab at the same time. Glad I did as a few weeks ago it was quite empty and easy to get through quickly. The queues at the same place yesterday were quite something.

I managed to get some LFTs last week too as part of my role at the moment involves meeting people out on site. Luckily the 7 I have will see me through to the New Year by which time I hope the shortages will be sorted! Locally here in south London it seems that both local pharmacies and libraries have LFTs for collection for the moment at least!

It's booked, at least, so just a matter of waiting another week. And it's not like I'm planning on going anywhere in the interim.

The booster jab seems to depend a lot on luck. My daughter had one booked for early January. As soon as she heard over-forties could have one after three months, she got online and was able to get an appointment the next day, which was also the only (and last) day she was going into work. Her colleagues and Twitter friends haven't had that luck. I'm glad you're getting yours before Christmas.

I did look to see if I could rebook but there was nothing available locally at all.

We got ours okay but even there they screwed up the booking system and we had to rebook because we'd misjudged 'six months' by a single day.

I think mine is actually a day short of six months but fortunately that's no longer an issue!

Luckily I was at my doctors at 09:00 this morning and able to pop in to the chemist at 09:05 - they had LFT's available and I took a box. Helped by the fact that I'm in Wales and things aren't generally so bad here.
