I managed to arrive at work this morning mostly dry, thanks to my rain poncho and waterproof hiking shoes, but Mary Berry would not have liked my trousers, which had very soggy bottoms.

The trousers were my newest make, the Closet Core Patterns Pietra Pants, in cobalt cotton twill.

A white person with short grey hair and glasses stands in a garden wearing a red top and bright blue trousers.

I think that, objectively, they turned out better than the purple trousers from a few weeks ago, but I think I may prefer the purple ones to wear. I am now hunting for a pattern for a long-sleeved jersey top which is a bit more than a t-shirt but still simple, unfussy and not too femme, as I think I could do with a few tops like that as an alternative to my patterned shirts, but so far nothing seems quite right.

I suspect we're going to be wanting the longer sleeves fairly shortly!

I didn't even try to stay dry on my two (cycled) school runs today - I just wore sacrificial clothing and changed once home again. Soggy bottoms, middles, tops and all.

They have turned out much better than mine did!

I use Tilly and the Buttons Agnes for a long-sleeved jersey top but it is quite fitted even if you don't do the puffy shoulders or the ruched elastic bit at the neck. I've just bought the Woodley Tee from Thread Theory as a possibly looser alternative but I haven't made it yet.

My go-to for patterns for me is Oliver + S. Here are a couple of long-sleeve t-shirt patterns in case they suit:
https://oliverands.com/shop/digital-noord-t-shirt-sweatshirt-sewing-pattern.html (has option for some addition of extra colours or whatever - may be a bit fussy, not sure, but it is a bit more than a t-shirt)
https://oliverands.com/shop/digital-easton-cowl-neck-tee-sewing-pattern.html (this one's a cowl neck which I suspect is probably not your thing but including just in case)
https://oliverands.com/shop/digital-maritime-knit-top-sewing-pattern.html (this one is like a breton top in shape)

It doesn't look quite so dramatic a boat neck as some are, it might be ok.

I expect I probably have recommended Oliver + S to you before. As with so many things they probably suit some body shapes / are better matched to some body types than other (they do me well, better than some others) so it might be that I suppose. The instructions are good and clear, and they help you to work out better ways to do other things, so from that point of view alone I would recommend giving them a try some time if you can find a pattern that might suit. On the O+S blog they have some helpful other styling photos, by their testers, that might help to get other senses of what it might be like?

Here's one example of the testers trying out the Noord:
https://oliverands.com/community/blog/2020/12/the-advisors-circle-sews-the-noord.html

And here's a link to the Blogs tab on the Noord page:
https://oliverands.com/shop/digital-noord-t-shirt-sweatshirt-sewing-pattern.html#tab-blog

but if that doesn't feel helpful, I'll try to refrain from recommending these another time :-) it's not one pattern company suits all, after all!
