The second book in C.L. Polk's Kingston Cycle, Stormsong, switches point of view from Miles, the narrator of Witchmark, to his sister Grace, and picks up the story where the first novel left off. Like Witchmark, Stormsong features both a queer romance (f/f rather than m/m this time) and a murder mystery, although its main focus is on Grace's attempts to end her country's abuse and victimisation of the magically gifted, in the face of opposition from the reigning monarch and the powerful families whose wealth is built on that abuse.

I loved the glittering 1920s ambience of Polk's fantasy world as much in this novel as I did in its predecessor. It's perhaps a bit less cozy than Witchmark, with several incidents of what feels more like Moderate Peril than Mild Peril, but it's not too tense to be an easy and enjoyable read, and I'm looking forward to reading the conclusion to the trilogy soon.
