Alexis Hall's new novel, Rosaline Palmer Takes the Cake, is a gloriously frothy romcom set around a TV baking competition (all resemblances to any real-life TV baking competitions, obviously, entirely coincidental). Featuring a love triangle between bisexual single mother Rosaline and two of her fellow competitors, it addresses homophobia and biphobia, classism, mental health and difficult family dynamics; it's also utterly hilarious in places and left me with the same warm cosy feeling I'd have got from bingeing an entire series of the Bake Off. An absolute delight from start to finish.
