Reading: Fugitive Telemetry (133/365)
May. 13th, 2021 06:58 pmThe latest instalment in Martha Wells' Murderbot Diaries series, Fugitive Telemetry, is actually set before last year's Network Effect (which was initially a little disappointing, as I really want to see where things go from the end of that book, but at least Wells is contracted to write three more novellas in the series). It sees Murderbot working with Preservation Station Security when a body is found dumped on the station, and is a delightful fusion of Murderbot and murder mystery (obviously, everything Murderbot knows about solving murders is from mystery dramas). Murderbot is its usual snarky self (possibly swearier than normal?), there's an enjoyable locked-room plot and I liked seeing more of Murderbot trying to interact with humans who aren't necessarily entirely happy about having a SecUnit living on their station. I find that I read the Murderbot books quite slowly, because I want to take the time to appreciate Murderbot's voice, but even in very small chunks this was a lovely escape from real life.
