My last professional haircut was at the start of March 2020; I've been cutting my own hair since April 2020. It's been a bit hit and miss, but I have got to the stage where I can do a fairly neat buzzcut (9mm on the back and sides, 12mm on top) with a bit of a quiff left at the front (though sometimes the quiff ends up a bit short, and occasionally I end up buzzing it off because it's gone a bit wonky, and last time I had the bright idea of combing it down and trimming it as a fringe without thinking that that would leave the shortest bits at the very front) and generally I think it looks OK (though it needs redoing regularly or I find myself resembling a dandelion clock).

However, my calendar is starting to fill up with in-person meetings, as we contemplate a full return to working on-site and not remotely, and I'm starting to worry that a haircut which is fine for Teams meetings might not be good enough when people can see the back of my head as well.

Maybe I should try to get to an actual barber instead? Though I'm not sure how much they could really do with hair that is still less than an inch long on top...

Might be worth a visit even if just to reassure yourself that it's okay? (I fully support home hairdressing but the back is The Hard Bit)

It certainly looks ok on Zoom! And if imperfections are more visible face to face, I doubt you'll be the only one.

That said, I've got a haircut booked for next week myself. It's time the frizzy ends came off.

Son buzz-cut his a few weeks ago (from shoulder-length curls!) and is similarly now pondering getting A Proper Haircut for term starting except there isn't enough of it yet for anyone to do anything with. It seems to be a difficult stage if you don't want to just shave it all off really short again.

Maybe wait until two or three weeks since your last buzzcut and then go to the barber if you want to?

I'm sure your hair is absolutely fine at the back! If necessary, could you ask T to tidy it up for you, or might that be disastrous?

I am in dire need of a haircut, but am not going to get one for another couple of weeks because reasons!

I would wait until it's long enough to be irritating first.

I think mine is horribly overgrown if it's been more than four weeks! I might have quite a low tolerance for hair on the back of my head...

Maybe you should let it grow for a couple of weeks more - until after your holiday, perhaps - and then see what a hairdresser can do that you can't?

His only went curly once he grew it down below his chin so it will be interesting to see how it grows out!
