Yes, I suspect that Berghaus top-of-the-range actual-accept-no-substitutes-3-layer-Goretex stuff might have stood up to it, but that's a lot of money to invest for waterproofing I'll only need on a couple of days in any given year (because if I'm not on a long-distance walking holiday, then if it's raining that hard I'm going to be staying at home, and I only get to go on one long-distance walking holiday a year, and it doesn't always rain like that anyway). I am thinking about whether to upgrade but am not actually sure it's worth it.
