I suspect that my ground-floor office in a building with thick concrete walls is a better place to spend a day when temperatures were over 30C (31C according to my car on the way home just before 7) than my house, which gets very hot, especially upstairs.

I also decided that, given that insofar as we have a dress code, (a) I set it and (b) it's "No onesies" in normal circumstances and "clothes" in COVID times, knee-length cotton twill shorts and a button-down shirt definitely counted as appropriate officewear, hairy legs and all. I have to say, I rather enjoy just how masc a look that is, particularly finished off with rainbow Teva sandals and a Panama hat (with a rainbow ribbon). Or a recently rebuzzed buzzcut-with-quiff, when indoors.

I think I might go for a swim after dinner.

It sounds a very good look. When I went into today one of my male colleagues was wearing exactly that: as he said, if it isn't shorts weather today, when is it? A female colleague and I had considered it, but I felt my walking shorts were a bit too short!

Yes, it feels very like extreme-heat menswear, which is probably why I like it.

I did get a swim, and it was wonderful. My thermometer said the water was about 23 degrees!

I went out for a walk with my kid the other day, bare hairy legs on show (in a dress but out! in! public!). Fine once I was out, but a bit hard to screw myself up to that sticking point (annoyingly). My kid in the meantime is adamant that she will never shave her legs; I tell her that she needs to see what peer pressure feels like, it may be that she will change her mind in the face of that and not to be ashamed if so, cos it's hard.

In some ways I think I find it easier to go out with bare hairy legs wearing shorts than I would have done when I used to wear dresses, because shorts-and-hairy-legs is a perfectly acceptable look for people who aren't read as women, and dresses-and-hairy-legs isn't :-(

The peer pressure is very difficult to cope with.

I went out in my shorts the other day - didn't yesterday or today as they are denim, and even hotter than normal linen trousers! I think that tomorrow I shall fish out my nice loose black shorts and wear them.

I always think that denim shorts are like sleeveless polo-necks in being things that it's never going to be the right temperature for! My shorts are all cotton twill, but quite loose.

I too have given up caring what other folks think of my hairy legs and actually ventured out in knee length shorts without even bothering to buzz them this week. Sadly, I lived to regret it because my legs haven't seen the sun in so long that I now have heat rash all over them :(

I'm more likely to get heat rash on the bits that are covered up because they always get hotter!
