Back in the jug agane

Today in numbers:

Steps walked: 14,442. Guess who got a Fitbit for Christmas? Now when I say that I walk miles every day at work I can back it up with hard evidence; 11.55km or 7.17 miles today.

Emails in my inbox when I got to work this morning: 57

Percentage of those emails which were junk and could be deleted straight away: 30%

Emails read during the day: about 150

Emails sent: 63

Number of people wished a Happy New Year: approximately 7 million, or that's how it felt.

Chocolate, cake and other festive treats consumed: none

Old movies watched: none, although I did spend an hour earwormed by "High on the hill stood a lonely goatherd" which is almost as good as actually watching The Sound of Music. Or that's what I tried to tell myself, anyway.

Weeks until I will next be able to take time off: at least 11

Point at which I first thought "surely it must be nearly time to go home now? I've been here hours!": 10:30am.

Woke up at 4:30 with a trapped claustrophobia dream; did not sleep again.

Boiler at work broken; froze.

Contributors meeting deadlines I'd set (technically not my job, but I took charge on sensible grounds): bloody brilliant.

Afternoon's earworm: Blueberry Hill. Sheer sodding joy.

I can't imagine why the primary school lollipop man (and classroom assistant) thought greeting everyone crossing the road was a good idea.

The details of my day were rather different, but the general feeling was quite similar.

This is a brilliant post although I am sorry about the last point.

I completely understand how these two things might coexist.

The holiday feeling never lasts that long... That is an immense amount of walking. I'm afraid that I went to bed with great intentions on that front last night and utterly failed.

I had the office to myself, and pushed by the cricket, finally managed to spend a couple of hours at the end of the day on a task that really needed to have been at the top of my list for some time: filing. I fear that more is needed, but at least it was a tiny bit of managing to start on something for the new year!

I also adopt that filing method for many things. It is useful and, ultimately, efficient. Except when you have mixed your "confidential but don't really care long-term" pile with your "contains vital personnel documents" file in the small cupboard you use for things you can't just leave out on the desk, and thus have to go through it all page by page. Oh well, the cupboard is getting clearer.
