I'd also say sweatshirt for a garment made out of a fine machine-knitted jersey, probably cotton, usually with a fluffy inside; a jumper can be hand or machine knitted but the fabric is different and it doesn't have the fluffy inside. But a cardigan is never a jumper, whereas I get the impression that in the US a cardigan can be a sweater?
