That was pretty much my experience, except that The Lives of Christopher Chant postdated my children's library time and the one I really didn't understand back then was The Homeward Bounders or possibly The Spellcoats. Fire and Hemlock wasn't released until I was in my teens, and was pretty much the last one I read until 20 years on because it just never occurred to me that there would be new ones, or even older ones I hadn't managed to get hold of.
