Your review reminded me a bit of 'By Light Alone' - I quite liked the idea of a future society where people had developed the ability to photosynthesise and thought exploring its impact had the potential to be really interesting but the actual execution involved a bunch of incredibly unsympathetic characters and shoving the idea that removing food poverty is not the same as making everyone equal down my throat without any attempt at light and shade. Kev informs me it improved later on when one of the characters declared revolution, but I'd given up by then!
