I am also a big fan of Vetinari, though that may have developed later. (I suspect one of my original problems with Jingo was Insufficient Carrot, but on re-reading Feet of Clay I realise that Carrot was a plot device of limited usefulness and therefore much better shuffled to a smaller supporting role after the first couple of books.)
