Hugo votes

Having come to the conclusion that I've probably read everything I was going to read, I thought I should probably submit my first ever Hugo ballot.

Best Novel

  1. Light From Uncommon Stars, by Ryka Aoki (Tor)
  2. A Desolation Called Peace, by Arkady Martine (Tor)
  3. A Master of Djinn, by P. Djèlí Clark (Tordotcom / Orbit UK)
  4. The Galaxy, and the Ground Within, by Becky Chambers (Harper Voyager / Hodder & Stoughton)
  5. She Who Became the Sun, by Shelley Parker-Chan (Tor / Mantle)
I didn't read (and therefore didn't rank) Project Hail Mary by Andy Weir; I would have read it but the voter packet copy was a watermarked pdf and trying to get it onto my kindle via Calibre resulted in complete unreadability, and it didn't sound enough like my kind of thing for me to actually pay for a copy.

  1. A Psalm for the Wild-Built, by Becky Chambers (Tordotcom)
  2. Fireheart Tiger, by Aliette de Bodard (Tordotcom)
  3. Elder Race, by Adrian Tchaikovsky (Tordotcom)
  4. A Spindle Splintered, by Alix E. Harrow (Tordotcom)

I didn't manage to get round to watching Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings but I thought I'd vote given I'd seen five out of the six shortlisted works (unlike Short Form, where I'd only seen one).
